The San Francisco 49ers is a team of the All-America Football Conference joining the National Football League (NFL) in 1950 during the two leagues’ merger.  The team is located in the San Francisco Bay Area.   The 49ers are currently members of the West Division of the National Football Conference in the NFL.  The origin of the the name 49ers derives  from “Forty-niners,” which is the name given to the gold prospectors arriving in Northern California around 1849 during the famous California Gold Rush.  The 49ers includes top players in the Hall of Famers including Steve Young, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, and legendary coach Bill Walsh. NFL’s history, the 49ers have won five Super Bowls. The 49ers’ main rival is the Dallas Cowboys the two franchises have been rivals since the 1970s. The 49ers wear scarlet and gold colors.
